We’ll explore what emotional immaturity is and looks like in families, focusing on the guilt and shame often experienced in these relationships.

Questions we’ll address include: Why do I feel so guilty? What were the unspoken rules and expectations in my family? Did I do something to deserve this? Am I a bad person for feeling or thinking outside of expected roles?

This session focuses on finding the “gray” in complex family dynamics, especially when cultural expectations and traditions make it difficult to disconnect. Through mindful storytelling, we’ll connect and validate each other’s experiences by asking, “What’s your family’s story?
Hosted by a Villij facilitator, this session offers a restorative soundbath or movement experience to help process emotions and experiences. It’s a chance to release the weight of intergenerational patterns and find moments of peace. Following this session, we’ll come together as a group to reflect and share insights.
We’ll explore the fantasies we’ve held and wished for from our parents or family members. This session focuses on discernment and how to let go of the expectation that the care we give will be reciprocated or acknowledged, instead focusing on building a stronger relationship with self-worth.
This session we’ll explore the unique grief of unmet caregiving needs and the anger of being overburdened by familial expectations. Through assertiveness practices and creating a personal “bill of rights,” we’ll work toward integrating these emotions into a path forward. A closing creative activity, including mindfulness and somatic hope practices will help us close the group with a sense of empowerment and personal insight.
